Charly Boy :The criticism of those who dare
On Wednesday, August 16, 2017, Charly Boy called off his anti-Buhari protest in Abuja.
Charly
Boy called off the protest after he was attacked by a mob in Abuja a
day earlier. The veteran entertainer has always been vocal against the
Federal Government, whoever is in power.
While
Charly Boy and a few others took time out to protest the 3-month stay
of the President in London over health issues, many people slammed him
for constructing a publicity stunt.
Charly
Boy has always had his haters and they came out to berate him for his
#ResignOrResume protest. Charles Oputa's critics said his protest wasn't
sincere and he was parading himself for some financial gain.
The
criticism of Charly Boy shows why Nigerians who want to do something
about the dreadful state of things in the country are afraid. You can't
please Nigerians. We moan and complain about the state of the country
and wonder why we can't come out and protest.
When
someone has the nerve to come out and protest we question the person's
motives. We always think there is an angle or hidden motive for
challenging the government. There are still a few good people who
believe that they have a part to play.
Ok,
let's entertain the fact that the protesters were doing it for 'show'
and playing to the gallery. What should matter the most is that some
people are challenging the government who have been very secretive about
the health status of the President. Looking at the bigger picture, the
health of the nation's number one citizen should weigh more than
ulterior motives.
The
people criticizing Charly Boy have most likely not contributed anything
positive to the country. Nigerians are ungrateful and that is why it is
hard to find people who are willing to bell the cat. Instead, all we do
is complain in our homes.
The
criticism of Charly Boy is unfair. This is a man who is demanding for
the right thing but some people feel he is doing it for publicity and
some other reasons.
Until we appreciate the few that challenge the government, Nigerians would never stand up.
