NDE trains 30 school leavers, artisans on business skills in nasarawa

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Tuesday said that it would train 30 school leavers and artisans in Nasarawa state on business management skills in order to enable them become self reliant and to contribute their quota to the development of the country.

Dr.Nasir Mohammed Ladan, the Director General of NDE made this known in Lafia in his key note address at the opening ceremony of five days free Basic Business Training(BBT) for 30 school leavers and Artisans in Nasarawa state.

Mohammed Ladan speech which was read by the Nasarawa state coordinator of NDE, Alhaji Dauda Idris Wase, said that the gesture was to enable the school leavers and Artisans become self reliant and to contribute their quota to national development.

 “Basic Business Training as the name connotes was designed by the directorate to train artisans and school leaves on the rudimentary aspects of business management skills, this is because despite being highly skilled in their chosen vocations.

“Most micro enterprises failed due to the lack of basic business management skills as the training is also part of the efforts of the directorate to address the menace of unemployment or underemployment by new entrants in to informal sector,” he said.

According to him,” The role of the local barbers, shoe shiners, hair dresser and similar players in the economy cannot be disregarded this is more so that the small time barber can be become a conglomerate tomorrow.

He tasked the beneficiaries to take the training with seriousness in order to become self reliance and to contribute their quota to national development.

The DG used the medium to call on unemployed Nigerians to take advantage of the agency’s various skills acquisition programmes in order to exit joblessness so as to improve on their standard of living.

Earlier, Alhaji Dauda Idris Wase, the Nasarawa state coordinator of the NDE said that the gesture would fight the high rate of unemployment, poverty which has degenerated in to others anti-social activities such as crimes, insecurity, armed robbery, drug abuse trafficking among others.

Dauda Idris Wase, who was represented by Mr.Rotgak Goar,the state Agency Head of Special Public Works department said that the training was organized in conjunction with some members of the National Assembly and state government officials in the state.

“The 30 participants will benefit from the Basic Business Training (BBT) which is designed to inculcate in to participants who are mostly unemployed school leavers and artisans strong entrepreneurial skills.

“Such as how to operate and manage their businesses and workers, sources of funds, business ethics, marketing ,cash management ,legal responsibilities, costing of products and services among others,” he said

He called for a collective efforts and partnership with the agency’s in order to provide job opportunity for all categories of unemployed persons, reduce abject poverty and generate wealth in the country.

Responding, Mary Isa and Thane Obadiah, who spokes on behalf of other beneficiaries thanked the NDE for the gestured and promised to live up to expectation for the overall development of the country.
