Taraba indigenes cry out over Gov.Darius unpopular policies.

Umar Abdullahi,Jos.

Some concern indigenes of Taraba state has appealed to the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to act fast to stop the seed of discord being planted by Governor Darius Ishaku again;

For several time now, Governor Darius has continued to disregard the existing cordial relation between various ethnic groups in the State by introducing negative policies aimed at planting seed of discord amongst them.

Abdullahi Garba Gassol for Concerned indegenes told our correspondent in jos that this is potentially dangerous and inimical to corporate existence of the State.

”One of such dangerous actions currently being undertaken by the Governor, in addition to his threatening anti-grazing policy" is the shipment and resettlement of Tivs from Benue State to Gassol, Bali and Gashaka Local Government Areas of Taraba State“.

He said this is very disturbing because,“ the imported Tivs are resettled on Fulani farms and existing grazing lands that his anti-grazing policy seek to abrogate,  without prior notice“.

“This is worrisome as well as an affront on the prevailing peace those areas have been known for.

“Moreso, this is happening when the State is engulfed by another communal violence on the Mambilla plateau which the Governor has continued to treat with disdain.

“We the indegenes of these three Local Government Areas therefore, wish to call on the Acting President to stop Governor Darius from further bringing and resettling Tivs/other outsiders on our lands as failure to heed this call means invitation to further crises of monumental d,imensions as indigenes of those areas would be forced to defend their ancestral lands“.

According to him,“our people cannot be denied grazing corridors in Benue only for the Governor to bring-in same people who denied us those Grazing corridors to be resettled on our lands“.

Gassol added that “we are appealing to His Excellency, the Acting President to prevail on Governor Darius to stop all his potentially dangerous programs and to also direct the Security agencies to arrest the situation before escalating to a full blown crisis“.

“we are calling on the Sultan Of Sokoto, Lamibe Fombina headed by the Lamido Adamawa, the Emir of Muri and the Emir of Gassol to also quickly intervene by advising the Federal Government on the dangers inherent in continuing with the Tiv resettlement on our farms and Grazing lands.

“We would never allow Governor Darius to succeed in his dangerous antics of creating chaos in the State.

“We are fully aware that his wife, Mrs.   Anna D. Darius is a Tiv native of Benue State who contributed in bringing peace between the Tivs and the Jukuns“.

He said “If the Governor and his wife feel that they need the Tivs around them now after years of war between them, then they should resettle them in the Jukun and kuteb areas of Takum, Wukari Ussa and Donga but never on our lands otherwise, we would be constrained to defend our farms and Grazing areas“.

That the Governor has deliberately avoided resettling the Tivs in the Jukun areas because of the same fear being exhibited by the indegenes of Gassol, Bali and Gashaka Local Government Areas.
