Flood: Dadin Kowa Community Sends SOS to Gov. Lalong.

An impending flood disaster is currently threatening the Sardauna Bashar environment around first gate in Dadin kowa community in Jos south local government area of Plateau state.

NewsNow report that strong indication indicates that a gully erosion that has been causing the community sleepless nights for over a decade now, has assumed a worrisome dimension that demands government attention.

A visit to the area recently after a heavy down pour that last several hours of rainfall shows that already the Sardauna Bashar House, comprising of a family upstairs house, a clinic and a school as well as the Dadin Kowa High School were at the stage of collapsing.

According to residents they have been managing the threats for a long time but could no longer bear it, considering the stage at which it continues to threaten lives and properties.

Speaking separately with our correspondent, the owners of Sardauna Bashar House, and former General Manager of the Federal Air Port Authority of Nigeria and one time General Manager of Jos Air Port, Alhaji Tanko Idris and the Proprietress of the Dadin Kowa High School, Hajiya Shuaibu Ahmed lamented over the deplorable conditions of the area and called for government's attention.

The residents reinstated that, "it is disheartening to tell you that the contract for to construction or rehabilitation of this gully area during the government of Jonah JANG in 2011 but up till now no work has commenced on the sight".  

"We made several efforts to ensure that the work was done and to a point we were shown that the sum of N20m was approved for JUPACO Nigeria Limited for the rehabilitation of the gully erosion but we don't know why it has not been done".

"We are appealing to the rescue administration of Bar. Simon Bako Lalong to come to our aid immediately, because any delay it will cause a lot of damage"they stressed.

Speaking with management staff of Nigeria Erosion and watershed management project, plateau state unit and the commissioner for environment and mineral development in plateau state, Hon. Abdullahi Abbas promised that they will do their best to address the problem.
