Plateau : 25 persons , Police officer arrested on illegal extortion of taxes.

At  least no fewer than 25 hoodlums including a serving Nigeria Police officer have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force office of the Inspector General of Police ,IG Abubakar Idris on high way over illegal extortion of funds from motorists.


The Desk officer /North Central National implementation zonal committee and the curtailment of cattle rustling ,SP Yahaya Usman Yusuf has confirmed this during a stakeholders meeting held at the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) headquarters in Jos South Local  Government Area.

He said the Nigeria police is ready to partner with all the  stakeholders in agricultural sector towards providing food security to the teeming Nigerian populace  in the country.


According to him, Nigerian police in collaboration with various agricultural organizations have commence process of addressing the challenges of multiple taxation on agricultural product .


Yusuf emphasized that ,citizens should see the problems associated with food insecurity as the major security challenges that has bedevil the Nigerians which the inspector general of Police has given topmost priority and  concern to its by putting in place security network that will tackle the menace.


Yusuf expressed concern over the cattle rustling drama which had cause sleepless night to Fulani herders  in Nigeria but stated government in collaboration with other security agencies are working very hard to partner with the appropriate body to ensure safety of all and sundry.


He explained further that the Nigeria police  are now trying to be proactive by organizing series of interactive session to provide solution to the insecurity problem .


The North Central  Zonal Coordinator of Plateau state chapter of Nigeria Association of Agricultural Product Dealers ,Dr Jonah Ogbaji decried that the multiple taxes and levies and intimidation and harassment of their members was thing of concern.


He said the destruction and stealing of goods and maltreatment of drivers in the seven states ,security have arrested some miscreants involving a serving police officer who was nap along Abuja road .


Ogbaji noted that ,"we must support FGN to enforce down price of food in the country ,we must defend our proactive farmers to proudly feed the nation .

He cautioned traders and drivers that do not pay levies to anybody on the Nigeria highway except at your point of loading and offloading only.




"We shall submit our trucks for inspection and certification to the Nigeria agricultural quarantine services (NAQS) approved control posts", he added.


Meanwhile, the Chairman NAAPD Plateau state chapter, Mr Samuel Yusuf Hamman also lamented the consistent failure of perishable goods by their members on highways to hoodlums.


He stressed that many Nigerian are Hungry with the availability of farmlands were people abandon farming vulnerable poor farmers to be working in the farm.



Hamman said the country is now suffering from multiple taxes cheating ,beating oppression and causing illegal damage to the economic of Nigeria.
